I'm Teresa, and this is why I paint:

Before painting became my language, photography was my world. For years, I told stories through a lens — chasing light, capturing fleeting moments, and finding beauty in the in-between. When I stepped away from photography, I thought I was closing a creative chapter. Instead, I was just making space for a new one. Painting found me in a quieter, more intuitive way. It let me slow down, get my hands messy, and build beauty instead of just capturing it. The same love of color, composition, and emotion carried over — only now, I get to create the scene from the inside out. What started as “something to try” turned into something I can’t imagine living without!

I didn’t set out to be an artist in the traditional sense. I set out to make things that felt joyful. Things that made a room softer, happier, lighter. Somewhere along the way, that turned into painting — big, colorful, imperfect, personality-filled florals that feel more like a feeling than a still life.

My work is inspired by everyday beauty — grocery store bouquets, leaves reaching into the light, color combinations that shouldn’t work but somehow do. I paint intuitively, layering shapes, brushstrokes, and color until the piece feels alive. Sometimes that means knowing when to add more. Sometimes, like with a recent piece that hung in my studio for months, it means realizing it’s already exactly right.

You’ll also notice something unique about my work: I often reuse frames and canvases. I love giving old materials new life. A little history, a little sustainability, a little character — just like the paintings themselves. Nothing is factory-perfect, and I like it that way.

My goal isn’t to create “serious” art. It’s to create art that makes you smile when you walk past it. Art that feels warm. Art that lives with you.
